Privacy Policy
This page is maintained by the Specsmith team to answer common privacy questions about the Specsmith web app and the Specsmith Companion browser extension. Last updated July 6, 2026.
What the extension does
Specsmith Companion lets you hand the current browser tab off to your Specsmith workspace: draft a PRD from a page, ask Specsmith about the page in context, or draft a review comment on a Janus ticket. It runs only when you explicitly invoke it (popup, context menu, or the floating button on Janus ticket pages).
What data is accessed
- Active tab title, URL, and current text selection — read when you open the popup, click a context-menu action, or press the Janus review button. Used to build a prefilled prompt or PRD draft.
- Extension settings (your Specsmith app URL) — stored via
chrome.storage.syncso it syncs across your signed-in Chrome profile.
What is NOT collected
- No browsing history, no background page reads, no keystroke logging.
- No analytics, tracking pixels, or advertising identifiers in the extension.
- No data is sold or shared with third parties.
Where data goes
When you invoke an action, the extension opens a new tab pointed at your configured Specsmith app (default https://specsmith.silqtech.ai) with the page title, URL, and selection passed as query parameters. Data is transmitted directly from your browser to that app over HTTPS; the extension itself has no server backend.
Once inside the Specsmith app, standard app authentication, storage, and AI-processing terms apply. The Specsmith backend uses Lovable Cloud for database and auth, and AI requests are routed through the Lovable AI Gateway.
Permissions justification
activeTab+scripting— read the title, URL, and current selection of the tab you are on when you click the extension.contextMenus— provide right-click actions for capture, PRD, and Janus review.storage— remember your Specsmith app URL setting.host_permissionsforspecsmith.silqtech.aiandjanus.silqfi.xyz— required to open the app and to inject the review button on Janus ticket pages.
Retention & deletion
The extension does not retain any of your page data. Uninstalling the extension removes all local settings. Data created inside the Specsmith app (PRDs, chats, comments) is governed by the app's data retention — contact the app owner to request deletion.
